The National Post has been running a series called My Toronto. Interestingly, and maybe not surprisingly to us, two of the recent subjects have mentioned their love of cycling in Toronto.
Steven Page, from the Barenaked Ladies, shares his love of the ravines.
Toronto's a city of ravines that are so often unused. When you do use them, they're pretty spectacular. They can take you places, too. We have a rehearsal space out by Caledonia and Eglinton and I'd ride my bike regularly from Riverdale to that area using Mount Pleasant Cemetery and the ravines. It's an exciting way to look at the city.
About 6 months ago, Steven gave props to the Tooker bike lane in an interview with Grist.
Do ex-politicians count as celebrities? There must be a few people who would ask for their autographs. Bill Graham also talks about the ravines, and about using his bike to commute.
When I taught at the university I'd just ride my bicycle over to the law school in the morning and ride back. That's another thing that I love about living in Toronto: while people talk about how dangerous it is to ride a bicycle on the streets, it really isn't if you're careful. It's a great way to get around, particularly when you live as centrally as I do. I use my bike all the time.
Nice to hear, Bill. See you on the road.
