Too Similar...
Fri, 09/14/2007 - 01:44Just after posting this, I was informed my cousin was in a situation similar, but worse situation than the Beverly Hill Road Rage Incident linked above. My cousin's friend was first hit by a motorist' car and then physically attacked by the driver while on the ground. The police were called and would charge everyone or no-one. Charges may still be laid. Recovery for the injured cyclist is expected to take months.
I don't yet know all the details, but this angers me. Not just that there are insane motorists out there, but that the cops don't care, are too lazy to be bothered to investigate, or else will only take the motorists side is the overwhelmingly frustrating part. Apperently five witnesses are willing to testify on the cyclists behalf.
And this is in Vancouver! A city that is supposed to be quite good to cyclists.

Fri, 09/14/2007 - 14:15On July 27 I was hit from behind while westbound on the Queensway approaching Ellis. I was in the curb lane at the time and it was approaching 8 pm.

Anyway to make a long story short PC ALI RASHID #9497 interviewed me in hospital immediately after I came out from under general anesthetic (they put me under to install a chest tube). At the time they were pumping me full of morphine to keep me comfortable and maintain some semblance of breathing while my lung was collapsed. Did I mention my helmet was trashed and I'd been CT scanned? Anyway he quickly concluded I was less than coherent. Surprise. When I mentioned a push from behind forcing me to my left he immediately cut me off and became antagonistic. He refused to accept my claim that I was hit from behind and again refused two weeks later when I tracked him down at 7 Division. His justification was that he had witnesses who claimed I fell. I wonder if his witnesses could have been in the motor vehicle that hit me.
Needless to say considering the injuries listed (on the spacing link) falling would seem .. a little unlikely considering a fit rider. I had been making monthly rides to Kitchener and back and averaged about 600 km/month.
