Bloor St. Reconstruction--bad for cyclists
Wed, 03/26/2008 - 13:06The plans for the Bloor St. reconstruction seem to want to erase cyclists completely. There appear to be no ring posts on the sidewalk plans, no bike lane (despite there being room) and improvements to encourage automobile traffic.
I bike the east/west route from Pape/Danforth to U of T daily and get the feeling the city and the Bloor BIA people don't really want people like me to work or shop on their fancy new street.
I'm really angry that the city would loan money to this group and then not enforce their own committments to encourage active transportion.
Though I'm also not really surprised.

Fri, 03/28/2008 - 07:46While I rarely engage in public protests, I can envision a clever one for the Bloor St. / Yorkville area: a number of cyclists dressed in high-end suits and tuxedo's distributing reports that suggest bike lanes improve the vitality of commercial districts, encourage more pedestrian access and do not deter business. Okay, maybe not so clever.
