Here's a posting of cycling news from across the country, and sometimes interesting things from around the world.
Local
- Cyclist union launched to help Toronto quickly become bike friendly (insidetoronto.ca, May 21); Toronto Sun; Toronto Star. Seems I don't just post news links, I get quoted in the news, too. And there's a picture with me and my daughter as well.
Also see National Post; Torontoist; and from late last week: Cycling's union movement (Toronto Star, May 18); and Cyclists get in gear to speak with a unified voice (Globe and Mail, May 17). Cograts to everybody who made the launch of the Toronto Cyclists Union a success. Memberships starting at $2/mo or $24/year. - Toronto Off Road Bicycling Association Formed (DirtRag, May 19)
Because some people also enjoy riding on the many great trails in Toronto's parks. For more info visit www.toronto-offroad.org - A true bicycle culture remains elusive (Toronto Star, May 18). - The unlikely home of high-end bikes (Toronto Star, May 18)
- Geared Up: On the road to two-wheeled transcendence. One man’s love affair with his bicycle (Walrus, June 2008)
- The Eglinton Avenue East death trap (Preville on Politics, Toronto Life, May 14). Any street that allows highway speeds or has merge/diverge ramps is very dangerous for cyclists and pedestrians, and all road users. It also goes against the city's own policies and rules based on the pedestrian charter, bike plan and official plan.
- Riding a bike again is, well, like riding a bike (Cape Breton Post, May 10)
