Take this as a warning. If you parked your bike outside for the winter and some jerk took your wheel or seat, the City will now take the rest of the bike unless you park it indoors. Save your bike, or donate it to the Community Bicycle Network or Bike Pirates before the City throws it in the garbage.

A Spanish company has created an interesting solution for tight urban spaces: the Biceberg, an automated, underground parking cube.

A strange story out of Waterloo has Susan Fish getting her bike slapped with an extra lock by building management for locking her bike outside coffee shop while she goes in to get a coffee. The full story can be found at the Waterloo Chronicle website and also at Take The Lane.

So having put together that image from the Google Maps satellite view of my wife's street, I decided to scrap the hand-drawn form, and paste in (roughly) that same picture before submitting the form.

Photo was taken on Christmas Day at Guildwood GO station. Looks like the staff at GO Transit decided to give cyclists a much appreciated present.

This past weekend the Yonge Lawrence Village BIA unveiled a set of bike art racks along the Yonge Street sidewalks.

Community residents, especially bike enthusiasts, will be delighted with the latest project of the Yonge Lawrence Village Business Improvement Association (BIA).

Local bike artist, Janet Attard, send me an email encouraging people to contact the Science Centre and fill out a survey to let them know they need some good bike parking. So go to it!

I do not know if you have ever cycled to the science centre, but the parking for cyclists is really really terrible !

I did visit their web site, and they do not even have directions to the science for cyclists, even though it is right next to a major cycling path.

The City has recently reported a secure Bike Station will be opening up this year at Union Station:

Opening July 2008, Toronto will see its first ever Bike Station to be housed in Union Station in the York Street Teamway. There will be secure, covered parking spaces for 200+ bicycles, signed out on a membership basis. There is no waiting list as yet but when one becomes available, Cyclometer will let you know.

Theft-proof bike racks could roll in by spring

A proposal for a bicycle storage facility near Union Station is expected to be popular with riders who don't want to see their expensive wheels stolen.

The 200-bike facility, with swipe-card access for users, would be located in the York St. rail underpass and could be open for business as early as May.

The Community Bicycle Network is looking for willing volunteers to help out with the bike valet parking at the Toronto Bike Film Festival. Valet bike parking will be at the Royal for each screening (Fri August 24, 7. Sat August 25, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9).
