This is pure conjecture, and so take it for what's it's worth, but Politico
is talking about what a Obama cabinet might look like
Here is the list of names being widely discussed in Democratic circles,
compiled with the help of ABC's Jonathan Karl and Politico's Ben Smith.
Some of the names are more likely than others, but all are being seriously
considered by Obama advisers. Some of the sources would be involved in
decision making, and some were making educated deductions.
Secretary of Transportation: Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), Rep. Jim
Oberstar (D-Minn.)
Those are probably the two biggest pro-bicycle guys in the U.S. government,
so that would be fantastic."
What he's got is illegal to drive in Toronto - no bell.
It can't be used at night - no lights.
It can't be used in any kind of weather - no fenders or chainguard.
He can't park it anywhere - no chain or lock (maybe its in whatever he's towing)
In short, the bike is useless except to look pretty in a photo. I prefer my politicans to be like my bike, more functional than decorative.
It's 'cause the secret service has to take up the whole road and all the store fronts for protection.
Beats GWB wearing army gear like he'd actually have the foggiest of what to do if anyone asked him to do something useful other than walk in a straight line.
At least Obama didn't fall off the bike like Reagan or Bush. Give that much to the Dems [laff]

Wed, 11/05/2008 - 20:37Can't the guy afford a decent bicycle?

Wed, 11/05/2008 - 22:02Gee, he's so useless!
He's only riding a Trek. It's not even a Cervelo!
What does he think he's doing going out for a Sunday ride with his kids? (Note: that's a Trail-a-bike he's got attached.)
If he can't meet Kevin's standards he just should have stayed in his car or stayed at home watching TV!

Thu, 11/06/2008 - 00:02Urban rider towing a kid vs. G.Bush mountain biking in remote areas - nice post Herb! Nice to hear you on CBC radio earlier today too.

I appreciate him trying to
Mon, 03/23/2009 - 19:30I appreciate him trying to be on the side of cycling, but I can't help but notice that he's riding on the sidewalk and not on the road.
