Dave Meslin got a video of one of the first BIXI stations being installed on Toronto streets.
As suspected, ING Direct is actually not going to be the main sponsor for BIXI Toronto. Rumours were swirling over the winter as BIXI delayed the official announcement of the main sponsors. From the BIXI Toronto website, Telus and Dejardins are now the main sponsors.
A couple other things we now know: The colour of the bikes will be completely black and not blue to match the City's logo. Looks like the bikes will now match the new trash cans being installed by Astral Media. I still prefer yellow, but the black is rather fetching.
The Learning Enrichment Foundation was chosen to repair the BIXI bikes. LEF runs the Bicycle Assembly and Maintenance Program as part of their skills training programs.

Fri, 04/29/2011 - 23:57Hurrah! They just installed a station by my work place at Hayter and Bay Street. (Just above Gerrard) It's not fully hooked up yet but the station/bike racks are in place on the small street taking up to 3 or 4 cars parking spots which is making some bike haters hate some more. Someone removed the pylons stating "DO NOT PARK BY ORDER OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT" and cars were parking right against the racks.
Interesting times ahead!
