An AMAZING time!
Wed, 01/21/2009 - 13:16I was really glad to see so many people out on a cold night, to see so many new faces I've not seen before, and to see so much participation. Three city councillors presented the city’s award. Over 200 people attended. There were skits, awards, jokes, races, drinks, and fun.
Many people came out of their way to mention to me that the ceremony was a blast, was worthwhile, that the winners were all well deserving, and that atmosphere and vibe were incredible, and that the event was fun. I couldn't agree more.
Many of us played a small role. Herb and I presented iBikeTO's awards, and I printed the certificates and purchased the frames in which they went. Others played a much larger role. TCAT, our winner for "Group of the Year" organized the Bike Summit last spring, as well as co-hosted the Bike Share forum. Albert Koehl, or winner of our "Advocate of the Year Award" was a key organizer of the Bells On Bloor ride, Toronto's largest group ride, and also was a party in suing the city to get bike lanes on Bloor (Pro Bono!)
But the biggest thanks for making the night happen should go to Yvonne Bambrick and Craig Barnes.
This was the first year. Next year I hope it gets even bigger and better! More awards! More participation! More city councillors! More attendance! And even more fun!
A big congrats to all the deserving winners, and another congrats to all the people who made this incredible event happen.
